I have now decided to dump Calibre due to the above mentioned drawbacks. ![]() Ask the programmers who wrote software for the LEM (Lunar Landing Module) and the Space Shuttle.I personally KNOW how much work it takes to do something like Calibre and how disheartening it can be to see people disrespect your efforts. NOTHING created by man is perfect, at least in my opinion. INSTEAD, I'll say the following:Many people use Calibre for various purposes and are satisfied with the way it works, as well as being grateful to the author for all of the hard work put into this program and for making it cross-platform and FREE. I have to say that I didn't know what ODPS was before Calibre and I'm stunned it isn't more widely used — if you have Marvin for iOS it's pretty brilliant but you're still only halfway to where I think most readers want to be — delivery of books is important but *then what*?To you folks carping about Calibre, I REALLY wanted to say "then by all means, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!". ![]() How would YOU like people to talk about something you made or did?One of the developers of HandBrake, another fantastic free, open source software program, posted a wonderful essay on his view of what open source software is and isn't, mainly in response to those who go to extreme to voice their disappointment or opposing point of view because HandBrake doesn't implement a feature they want or meet their needs. You may not get your way, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Please think before opening your mouth for input OR output. If the fault isn't a bug, but is something you would prefer, consider offering to help or offer good old money. If you find fault, talk to the responsible party. Step up, do the work, and THEN you MIGHT be knowledgeable to actually have something helpful to say.Of course, EVERYONE has a right to their own opinion, but if it isn't HELPFUL, keep it to yourself, how about it? Carping is NOT a pretty personality characteristic. If not, you have the freedom of choice to either modify it to suit your desires or find another software package that more closely meets your needs. As I stated in another thread (and alluded to again here), the features you find in any open source software package are there because at least one programmer needed them and implemented them to meet their needs (more forward-thinking programmers often at least attempt to make them flexible enough to work for others with similar needs as well). Like most things that are free, it comes with no warranty: If it does what you want, that's great - that's exactly why it was offered to you.
